Pit, Lumbee and Loomis fires burn in Lassen County

It’s mid-July, and it appears wildfire season has arrived in Lassen County.

According to Watch Duty and CalFire, in addition to the Elephant Fire, three other wildfires burning in Lassen County.

Pit Fire
According to CalFire, the 3-1 Pit Fire (Little Valley Road & Wilson Springs Road, southeast of McArthur) started about 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, July 7. It has blackened 1.055 acres and is currently 70 percent contained.

Lumbee Fire

2:25 p.m. Saturday, July 11
These two fires have been mapped at a combined acreage of 23.5 by FIRIS OES Intel 12. Additionally, these two fires will now be known as the “Lumbee Fire”

7:40 p.m. Saturday, July 11
The fire is now 50 acres and is burning in grass, brush and timber. The fire is threatening structures and critical infrastructure. Evacuation orders and warnings remain in place. CalFire air and ground resources are assigned.

8:59 p.m. Saturday, July 11
There is now dozer line and hose lay around the fire, crews are continuing to mop-up and the fire is now approximately 5 percent contained – per Incident Command.

10:18 a.m. Sunday, July 12
Ground resources and night flying aircraft made significant progress on the fire. Today, fire personnel will continue to strengthen control lines and work to complete hose lays around the fire to improve suppression efforts. Favorable weather conditions are expected to provide an advantage as crews continue their work.

Evacuations orders and warnings are in effect.

Evacuation orders
Evacuation orders issued for the following zones: LAS-141-A. Immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to leave now. The area is lawfully closed to public access.

Evacuation warnings
Potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate and those with pets and livestock should leave now. Evacuation orders issued for the following zones: LAS-141-B, LAS-143, LAS-145, LAS-153 and LAS-157.

Loomis Fire
The Loomis Fire began about 12:47 p.m. Saturday, July 11 in the Dixie Valley. The fire has burned 565 acres and is 4 percent contained.

Evacuation orders
Evacuation orders issued for the following zones: LAS-141-A. Immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to leave now. The area is lawfully closed to public access.

Evacuation warnings
Potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now. Evacuation warnings issued for the following zones: LAS-141-B, LAS-143, LAS-145, LAS-153 and LAS-157.
