City council approves police body camera budget

The Susanville City Council approved the police department’s body camera program for another year.

At the city council’s Aug. 21 meeting, the board decided to renew the Visual Labs Incorporated contract allowing SPD Chief Kevin Jones to provide execution of the contract for $9,216.

The current budget includes the cost of providing the devices, assigned to personnel and used by the staff on shift on a rotating basis.

On Aug. 7, Jones told the council that the body cameras from Visual Labs have made the evidence-processing swift.

At the Aug. 7 meeting, Jones reported on the progress of the department’s body camera program, saying the body cameras were “heavily suggested” to be used every time.
