Prison investigates bomb threat; Crime Stoppers offers reward             

According to a Wednesday, Sept. 29 statement from Dana Simas, press secretary for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, “High Desert State Prison takes the safety and security of all those who live and work at our institution very seriously, and we work tirelessly to respond to any incident which may pose a threat of violence or major disruption to the daily responsibilities and mission of the institution.”

Simas reported, about 8:55 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, HDSP received a telephone call from an unidentified caller. The unidentified caller stated a bomb was placed in the parking lot at HDSP.

Due to the seriousness of these threats, CDCR/HDSP initiated All-Hazard protocols and requested Consolidated Bomb Squad Officers from Washoe County Sheriff and the University of Nevada Reno Police. A comprehensive search was conducted of the impacted areas prior to the all-clear given around 4 p.m.         CDCR/HDSP Investigative Services Unit are actively investigating the bomb threat, a violation of California Penal Code section 148.1.
