UPDATE: According to a statement from the Susanville Fire Department, the quickly extinguished Thursday vegetation fire on River Street appears to be human caused.
When firefighters arrived at the scene Thursday evening, they discovered a 10 by 20 foot vegetation fire alongside the roadway. The fire was burning at a slow rate of spread in approximately 3 foot tall grass, and was moving down the embankment toward the river away from the homes on River Street, according to the statement.
Crews made an aggressive attack, and contained the fire without further spread. The fire appears to be human caused, the statement read.
Responding were two fire engines, five firefighters and two chief officers. There were no fire service or civilian injuries.
Cal Fire, Susanville Police Department, BLM and LMUD assisted the Susanville Fire Department with the fire.
