Red Flag Warning in effect for Western Lassen County Sunday, Monday

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25 through 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26 for gusty winds and low humidity for the Tahoe Basin through Western Lassen County, according to the National Weather Service.

The affected areas include Fire Zone 271 Western Lassen, Eastern Plumas, Eastern Sierra, and Eastern Nevada Counties and Fire Zone 272  Greater Lake Tahoe Area.

Northeast winds from 15 to 20 mph with gusts of 30 to 35 mph are projected. Higher gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible along mid- slopes and wind-prone areas with gusts of 70+ mph along the Sierra Crest.

Humidity is projected at about 15 to 25 percent Sunday night, falling to 8 to 15 percent Monday.

The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them. Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Follow local fire restrictions.
