Combating the limited budget available to the Diamond View Middle School library, a giving tree was placed in the school cafeteria.

The giving tree was an idea formed between library technician Shirley Littlefield and the site council as a way to increase the number of non-fiction books in the library, in accordance with Common Core Standards.

Parents and students could go to the giving tree, pick off a tag and donate the money toward a non-fiction book, and in turn, their name would be placed within the book so everyone will know who donated it.

Jill and Andy Mark were evacuated from their home near Forest Ranch off Highway 32 due to the Camp Fire.

“Everywhere we went people were so nice,” said Jill.

From a very hospitable stay in a local hotel, to friendly staff and welcoming residents, the Marks just wanted to say thank you.

“I just think the town should know just how nice they made it,” Jill said.
