Resources available for local students

As local public schools are temporarily closed, various organizations are ensuring students receive help.

Lassen High School Support Services

Call Nancy Singh at 257-5134 for nutrition support and more for students.

Susanville School District

Starting Monday, March 23, Meadow View, Diamond View and McKinley schools will have curbside meal pick up for children ages 1 to 18 years old. They will be there from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students will receive lunch and breakfast for the next day.

 

Local Salvation Army

Call Juanita Williams at 251-7782. Salvation Army is located at 1560 Main St. in Susanville, and students may get access to food and other resources there.

Students do not have to be accompanied by an adult if they are in need.

 

Services for Westwood students

WUSD is distributing “grab-n-go” sack lunches/breakfasts. Call -256-3295 before 9 a.m. to reserve a sack lunch/breakfast. If nobody answers, please leave a message. Pick up time is between 11 a.m. and noon at the old Fletcher Walker School on Delwood Street.

 

Shaffer Elementary School

There will be three meal pick up locations for Shaffer School students: The school multipurpose room, the Leavitt Lake Fire House and the Cardena’s Driveway in Wendell. Families can check which location they should visit depending on where they live through a link on the school’s website.

 

Fort Sage Family Resource Center

Starting Monday, March 16, students can receive free lunches through the Fort Sage Family Resource Center. Call 827-3007 and order lunches. The lunches will be delivered at four locations at noon Monday through Friday: Doyle Senior Center at the turn on Cowboy Joe Road; and the Family Resource Center, Community Center on Tamarack; the Mark; and the entrance of the trailer park in Herlong.
