Richard Alton Nunnelee
Ric was born on Nov. 7, 1952, in Paris, Arkansas, to Robert Alton and Hazel Dell (Jetton) Nunnelee. The family soon moved to Lompoc, California, where Ric grew up with his older sister Robbie and younger brother Danny.
Ric enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1971 and retired as an E-6 21 years later. Ric loved the travel associated with the Navy and belonged to a running group in Moscow, USSR, called the Hash Hound Harriers.
Rick became a member of the Masonic Lodge in Duncanville, Texas, on July 21, 1983, and attained the rank of Past Master of Lassen Lodge No. 141.
Ric was preceded in death by both his parents, Robert and Hazel, and his wife Cherie Ann (Hansen) Nunnelee on June 29, 2005.
Ric and Cherie have one son, Rhys Alton Nunnelee, born on Aug. 31, 1995. Ric married Catherine May Martens on June 17, 2007, in Yelm, Washington, and soon moved to Susanville.
Rick is survived by his sister Robbie Dell Legendre (Donald) and brother Danny Franklyn Nunnelee. Ric is also survived by his son, Rhys Alton Nunnelee, and his wife, Catherine May Nunnelee.
Both Masonic and Christian services will be held on Jan. 8, 2022, 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Susanville. A lunch will follow with internment at Diamond Crest Cemetery at 2 p.m. Ric would like everyone to know that he is at peace and “If I was any better right now, I’d be twins.”
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the United Methodist Church Hope Food Pantry in Richard Nunnelee’s name.
