Preschooler Tristan Roberts tentatively takes a seat on Rotary Santa’s lap during a visit to the Westwood State Preschool.

Rotary Santa visits Westwood schools before Christmas break

Westwood Rotary completed its final community service project Thursday, Dec. 15, with John Fehrman, a past president and long-time member, dressing as Santa Claus and delivering bags of candy and oranges to children at Westwood State Preschool and Fletcher Walker Elementary School. Sheila Oxford, another long-time Rotary member, portrayed Santa’s elf.

During the visit at Westwood State Preschool children sang “It Must Be Santa” and presented Fehrman with a “HoHo” plaque.

Fehrman said the local club had sponsored Rotary Santa for about 50 years. While Westwood Rotary will officially disband Dec. 31, 2016, he did not foresee the tradition of Santa’s visits coming to an end. He said if no other local organization or club takes over the project he his wife Karron and Oxford would probably continue.
