Saturday clean up prepares for annual Junior Fishing Derby

As the annual Lassen Sportsmens Club Junior Fishing Derby nears, local volunteers are heading out tomorrow, Saturday, May 15 to ensure areas are clean for the young fishers.

The clean-up will start at 10 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park.

The week following, the 32nd annual Junior Fishing Derby will be held Saturday, May 22 along the Susan River and Piute Creek in Memorial Park.

This year’s event, co-sponsored by the City of Susanville, Lassen County and the Susanville Indian Rancheria Business Council, is dedicated to the memory of long-time supporter Leonard Griswold (1945-2019).

The free event is open to kids from 2 to 15 years old.

The event begins with registration at Memorial Park between 5 and 9 a.m. A free breakfast for kids will be served from 5:30 to 8:30 a.m. A free lunch for kids will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded in various age groups for the largest fish as well as the coveted Sportsmanship Award. Door prizes also will be awarded, and all prize winners need to be present to win. The Junior Fishing Derby ends at 3 p.m.
