Saturday Shasta Street fire spreads to two other structures, damages two vehicles
A fire at 704 Shasta Street Saturday, Aug. 26, severely damaged one structure, moderately damaged two other structures, severely damaged a vehicle and minorly damaged another vehicle.
According to a statement from the Susanville Fire Department, at about 10:16 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, units from SFD responded to a structure fire at 704 Shasta St. An engine arrived on scene to find a fully involved single-story structure threatening multiple exposures. Fire units started using defensive tactics to slow the rate of fire spread to the exposure. With assistance from multiple agencies, the SFD was able to stop the progress of the fire on the exposures and then extinguish the main body of fire.
The fire’s progress was stopped with one structure severely damaged, two structures with moderate damage, one vehicle severely damaged and one vehicle with minor burn marks on the front end.
After the fire had been extinguished, an investigation to determine the cause of the fire began. The fire remains under investigation.
The SFD received auto-aid and mutual-aid from CalFire, CDCR, Susan River, Standish Lichfield, Janesville and Milford units. SFD also received assistance from LMUD, the Susanville City Gas Department, Susanville City Police Department, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and the Red Cross.
