Mike Scanlan, Lassen County Board of Supervisors District 1

My name is Mike Scanlan, and I am running for the Lassen County Board of Supervisors for District 1.

I am and have been the pastor of a small church in Susanville for the last 16 years.

I was a police officer and sergeant for the Long Beach Police Department for almost 18 years. During that time, I worked patrol and street level narcotics on the Narcotics Enforcement Team. I was also a court recognized drug recognition expert having made thousands of narcotics related arrests.

I am currently a volunteer chaplain for the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department, responding to their requests for assistance as needed. I volunteered with the Lassen County Search and Rescue operation following the Paradise fire, seeking to locate victims of the fire.

I presently volunteer with the Susanville chapter of the Adult and Teen Challenge rehabilitation program helping men to recover from their alcohol and drug related addictions.

I am not a politician, I am running a “grass-roots” campaign supported by ranchers and farmers, small businessmen, retiree’s, law enforcement officers, both active and retired. I am supported by families with kids, young people, and students.

I am a constitutional conservative.

I have a history of volunteerism, community service, and leadership. While a police sergeant, I was the incident commander on numerous large operations successfully directing hundreds of police officers and resources during civil disaster and crisis situations.

Following hurricane Katrina, I led a relief camp in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi — during which time I directed up to 200 volunteers feeding more than 6,000 people a day while simultaneously also directing construction crews at multiple locations cleaning out houses preparing them for re-construction in coordination with local authorities.

I have coordinated relief efforts, and mission trips to Haiti, Peru, Nepal and Mexico. Assessing the situation, developing an action plan, then implementing those plans focusing on the maximum use of resources, minimizing waste.

I am a family man, having been married to my beautiful wife Grace for 44 years. We have seven children and eight grandchildren. I have a vested interest in the quality of community that my grandkids will grow up in.

I am a worker and a problem solver. I see the many challenges that face our community and want to find innovative ways to address those issues.

If elected, my objectives are to:

  • Draw new businesses into our community.
  • Support our local law enforcement personnel and make sure that they receive a competitive wage and retain them within our community.
  • Address our infrastructure needs, including our roads and services.
  • See that code enforcement issues are addressed within our community.
  • Maintain and showcase the natural beauty and recreational resources Lassen County has to offer.
  • Work with our state and congressional representatives to see that state issues affecting our county are addressed like, the repeal of Propositions 47 and 57.

I want to help our county thrive and would humbly ask for your vote on March 5, 2024.
