Schuster will serve another term as mayor in what one resident called ‘an era of hope’

Susanville City Councilmember Mendy Shuster, one of two remaining veterans on the Susanville City Council, will serve another term as mayor. Russ Brown, the other remaining veteran councilmember, will serve as Mayor Pro Tem.

Newly elected Councilmembers Dawn Miller, Patrick Parrish and Curtis Bortle — all of whom took the oath of office at the 11 a.m. Monday, April 1 special meeting — joined Shuster and Brown at the dais.

The council and city staff recognized outgoing Councilmembers Mayor Quincy McCourt, Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Herrera and Kevin Stafford with plaques and messages of good will.

The new council gets right to work with a meeting scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 at City Hall, 66 N. Lassen St.

Items on the agenda include Business From the Floor (public comment), the Consent Calendar (minutes from the March 6, meeting, vendor and payroll warrants and monthly financial reports from October through December 2023); Public Hearings (Consideration of Resolution No. 24-6296 accepting the 2022-2023 annual report of development/mitigation fees); New Business (Resolution No. 24-6291 approving an increase to the snow removal budget, Resolution No. 24-6297 approving the street closure and a donation of police and public works overtime for the Walk A Mile Event April 27, Resolution No. 24-6298 approving the street closure for the Susanville Little League Opening Day Parade April 13, Resolution No, 24-6299 authorizing the mayor to execute an agreement with CGI Communications for the production of promotional videos, Resolution No. 24-6300 regarding Airport Hangar No.. 33, and receive HdL Q3 2023 reports); Continuing Business (Resolution No. 24-6301 approving an adjustment of developer impact fees for Skyline Self Storage); Department Reports; and Future Council Items.

No meeting will be held April 17 — that meeting has been cancelled. The council’s next regularly scheduled meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1.
