California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber issued the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s executive order on advancing equity in California.
“As a private citizen and as an elected official, I have advocated for more inclusive state policies in hiring, contracting and access to education, so I applaud Governor Newsom’s executive order today to advance racial, gender and LGBTQ equity in state government.
“Our government needs to look like the people of California, and it needs to serve all Californians. The economic opportunities provided by the state should also be accessible to all. The Governor’s action today includes important concrete steps towards these goals.”
