Just before noon Monday, Jan. 18, the Susanville California Highway Patrol Communications Center received a 911 call regarding a semi-truck hauling equipment traveling south on Highway 395, near the Honey Lake Rest Area, leaking an oil base substance that was coating the caller’s windshield, according to a statement from CHP.
Susanville Area Officer S. Glucklich responded to the area and observed the vehicle stopped on the west shoulder of Highway 395, attempting to stop the leak. Officer Glucklich determined the equipment being hauled was vehicle crushing equipment, and the fluid was miscellaneous vehicle fluids from the crushing process, the statement continued.
The containment system developed a leaking valve while traveling on the highway approximately one quarter mile prior to stopping. Sergeant B. Townsend responded to the scene and coordinated cleanup efforts. The material was cleaned up by the company responsible under supervision of CHP and Caltrans personnel.
