Sheriff’s Office recognizes awards, promotions

During a sunny December Wednesday, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office recognized several employees for their promotions and awards.

Lassen County Sheriff Dean Growdon noted he loved getting to recognize the achievements of his department.

“It’s really important for us to be able to recognize our employees who were exceptional throughout the year,” he said.

During the Wednesday, Dec. 10 ceremony, several officers were recognized for their promotions, awards and graduations.


John McGarva was promoted to the rank of captain.

Chris McMullen was promoted to the rank Correctional deputy.

Jessica Goni was promoted to the rank of correctional corporal.

Derek Didisse was promoted to the rank of correctional sergeant.

Amy Foster was promoted to the rank of correctional lieutenant.

Officers/employees of the year:

Gabrielle Gatie was selected as Correctional Deputy of 2020.

Shane Parker was selected as Deputy Sheriff of 2020.

Dustin King was selected as Civilian Employee of 2020.

Moreover, the local department swore in new officer Richard Gatewood and recognized Meghan Monnahan’s recent graduation from the Butte College Police Academy on Dec. 4.

Along with the pinning, those recognized also received a Thin Blue Line pin to promote unity in the department, Growdon said.

“This has been an exceptional year for us. Everyone has had hardships,” said Growdon. “I just want to thank, sincerely, our staff … everyone is looking to help. That’s something that really special about our department.”
