Sheriff’s office seeks ‘armed and dangerous’ man following alleged kidnapping

Update: According to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Dorothie Crosby has been located safely in Susanville; however, Maitland Carpenter remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous by the department. The vehicle of interest is a gold Hyundai Santa Fe, California license plate number 5XIL173. If approached, call the sheriff’s office at 257-6121 with any information.

Law enforcement notified the public of a potentially armed and dangerous man following an alleged kidnapping.

In a Monday, Feb. 17 statement, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office noted Maitland Carpenter, 41, arrived at a Susanville residence Monday and left with Dorothie Janaybean Crosby, also known as Miles, Janay Crosby, and Janay Miles, 25, along with another male subject.

Carpenter, who is known to frequent the Reno and Sacramento areas, was last seen leaving the Susanville area with Crosby, who “is considered to be at risk and with Carpenter against her will” according to the statement.

The statement continued to not approach Carpenter and use caution, as “Carpenter should be considered armed and dangerous.”
