Sierra Central Credit Union donates $20,000 in scholarships to support local students
Sierra Central Credit Union is honored to award 20 deserving area college students with academic scholarships to support their educational goals and career pursuits. Each student received $1,000 for a total scholarship donation to the community of $20,000.
“Our youth are our future, and Sierra Central knows the importance of giving back to further their education,” said Chief Executive Officer Ron Sweeney. “Our team was incredibly impressed this year with the caliber of applicants who not only demonstrate exceptional aptitude but are engaged in a wide variety of co-curricular activities and community service. We are honored to support them in their collegiate endeavors.”
This year’s recipients were honored May 25, 2022, at Sierra Central’s Annual Meeting held at Peach Tree Golf Course and Country Club where they received their checks and were celebrated with their families. While some students are pursuing their degrees close to home, others are attending universities across California, Oregon, Utah, Michigan and Indiana, as they work toward degrees ranging from the sciences and engineering to design and sociology.
The Sierra Central Scholarship Program has grown and expanded since its inception from a few small awards to now 20 $1,000 scholarships each year to deserving high school seniors and current college students. Scholarship applications are accepted annually from Jan. 1 to April 1, with winners announced each May at Sierra Central’s annual meeting. To apply you must be a Sierra Central Credit Union member, a high school senior or current college student. Past winners, still attending college, are welcome to apply. “Sierra Central donates more than $100,000 annually to local worthy nonprofits in the areas we serve,” said Jamie Keith, vice president of marketing and public relations. “We are local, support local and know the importance of giving back to our members. Our annual scholarship program is just one of those avenues of service that allows us to connect our core values — education, youth, military and health — to help local members for educational funding.”
