Small Business Saturday was a success for local businesses

On Nov. 26, locals celebrated Small Business Saturday, a shopping holiday held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to support local small businesses. The day is recognized within small businesses all throughout the country.

Local bookstore Margie’s Book Nook was pleased to say that the special day brought in much local support. It did make a difference and brought awareness to supporting small businesses.

“We appreciate all of our loyal support that we have here in Susanville,” said Margie Teeter. Margie’s Book Nook will be celebrating Small Business Saturday again next year.

Hodge Podge Lodge had some special deals going on throughout the day as a way to thank their customers. The business did exceedingly well on Saturday.

“This was the best we’ve had in years,” said owner Kelly Smith, “And we would like to thank the community for coming out and supporting local businesses.”

Milwood Florist & Nursery also had a successful Saturday, with an increase in visitors compared to Black Friday. They had signed up with American Express, which helped with the marketing and promotion of Small Business Saturday. American Express started the program back in 2010 in order to encourage people across the country to support small, local businesses.

The day was busy and successful all throughout town, helping bring recognition to the local small businesses here in Susanville.
