Stanley William Holmes left this world to be with his mom, dad and Jesus on February 15th, 2022, at the age of 87.
He was born in Susanville, California, on July 12, 1934, to Nate and Jesse Holmes. He graduated from Susanville High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Marines and served in Korean during the Korean war.
After returning home he went to work in the logging industry as a timber faller. He also took classes in forestry and conservation.
He loved to hunt and fish, and was an avid model railroader. He could be found going to railroad museums in California and Nevada, his favorite being in Portola, California. He never met a train he didn’t like.
A severe timber accident led to his retirement and he moved to Tucson, Arizona, for warmer weather. He made new friends in Arizona and was well loved.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Nate and Jesse Holmes. He is survived by his son, Charles N. Holmes; his daughter, Tammy ( Rick) Miller; sister, Constance Bittick; nephews, Roger and Gary Bittick; two granddaughters, Melody and Jessica; one grandson Nathan Holmes and numerous cousins.
A graveside military memorial service will take place on March 9th, 2022, at 10:00 am at the Arizona veterans memorial cemetery, 15950 N. Luckett Rd., Marana, Arizona.
