Steiner responds to LaMalfa — says congressman is too scared to debate him

“Doug LaMalfa is too scared to participate either in a debate with me or in a town hall forum that would allow audience members to ask questions of the candidates,” said House of Representatives candidate Max Steiner.

“The email from the Butte County League of Women Voters that Gilliard refers to asks LaMalfa about possible dates for an online forum. Any forum is better than no forum, and I’ve promised the LWV that I will participate in any online forum with LaMalfa that they are able to arrange. The only delay came from the LaMalfa camp, who missed a Sept. 10 deadline to respond and then, on Sept. 29, changed their mind. The Steiner campaign never missed a LWV deadline, even as last-minute details were being worked out.

“Let me be clear: LaMalfa missed the deadline by more than two weeks, then emailed the LWV to say that Oct. 20 would work, only then was the LWV waiting for Steiner to respond, who did by the LWV deadline. The LaMalfa campaign’s claim here – that Steiner caused the delay – is ludicrous.

LaMalfa did not participate in the pre-primary forum arranged by the Butte County LWV. He then did not respond by the initial deadline of the LWV for a General Election Forum. He still refuses a debate, whether in-person or online, and refuses an in-person forum.”
