Veteran of Foreign Wars Commander Donald Moose welcomes the public to the Veterans Day celebration at the Veterans Memorial Hall.
The Veterans Day Parade β an old-fashioned American tradition that has been lost or forgotten in many parts of the county, but itβs alive and well in Susanville.
Susanville residents gathered along Main Street and cheered as the veterans tossed candy to children, and other community groups such as the Soaring Eagles Blue Star Moms (mothers whose children are serving in the military), The Fire Technology CalFire Academy at Lassen Community College, dancers from JandJ Performing Arts and others join in the celebration.
Following the parade, a hundred or so residents and veterans gathered in the Veterans Memorial Hall for a short celebration including an introduction by Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander Donald Moose, an invocation by Chaplain Aaron Fehn, the reading of a proclamation from the Lassen County Board of Supervisors by Chris Gallagher, comments by American Legion Commander Bob Tyndall, VFW Ladies Auxiliary President Lola Rama and Blue Star Eagles President Berva Treat.
Then the veterans served a free hamburger lunch with all the fixings to the community downstairs after the event.
