Susanville Planning Commission meets Tuesday; considers use permit for short- and long-term rentals at Frontier Inn motel

The Susanville Planning Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 to consider a resolution approving Use Permit No. 2024-013 allowing short-term rentals (less than 30 days) long-term rentals (more than 30 days) at the Frontier Inn motel on Main Street in Susanville.

According to the staff report, “The proposed project, if approved, would not require further environmental review pursuant to Section 15301 of the California Environmental Quality Act Guidelines.”

According to a site map included with the agenda item, the project includes 48 units.

The City of Susanville Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing to allow public comment on Use Permit No. 2024-013 for the Frontier Inn Hotel. The city of Susanville is required by state law to facilitate Use Permits and or Land Use Entitlements initiated by private landowners for specific projects on privately owned lands.

City staff and the planning commission’s role is to evaluate the application as it pertains to the associated zoning district and formulate findings of consistency or inconsistencies when determining a project’s potential for approval.

The city of Susanville strives to evaluate these proposals thoroughly in order to preserve the public health, safety and welfare of the overall community.

The applicants are requesting a Use Permit to allow Short-Term Rental (30 days or less) and Single Room Occupancy options at the existing 48-unit hotel. Single Room Occupancy is allowed in a C-2 Zoning District by first securing a Use Permit through the city of Susanville Planning Commission Pursuant to Title 17, Chapter 17.36.030(P). The subject property has a zoning designation of C-2 (General Commercial Shopping Center Zoning District) and has a land use designation of “General Commercial/Shopping Center” pursuant to the City of Susanville General Plan 1990-2010.

The subject parcel has been assigned assessor’s parcel number 105-251-015-000 pursuant to the Official Records of Lassen County, California.

The proposed project if approved would not require further environmental review pursuant to Section 15301 of the California Environmental Quality Act guidelines.

This project is scheduled to have a public hearing by the Planning Commission at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 22, 2024, in the City of Susanville City Council Chambers located at 66 N. Lassen Street Susanville, CA 96130.

The public is invited to attend and provide verbal and/or written comments on the proposed project. Written comments must be received at the above address at, or prior to, the meeting date and time.

Note: Any appeals on the proposal must be based on comments made known (either through written or verbal comments) at the public hearing. Appellants must also be represented at the public hearing for an appeal to be accepted by the City Council.
