SUV/big rig collision injures Reno man

An unidentified 62-year-old man from Reno, Nevada suffered major, life-threatening injuries when his 2008 Mazda SUV collided with a 2019 Kenworth on Highway 395 south of County Road A-25 about 5:33 a.m. Tuesday, March 9.

Mike Scott, 57, of Spanway, Washington, the big rig driver, was not injured.

According to a statement from the California Highway Patrol, the SUV cross into the Kenworth’s path. While Scott tried to avoid the collision the Mazda hit the front of the big rig head on.

The CHP, and emergency personnel from SEMSA, the Sierra Army Depot Fire Department and the Milford Fire Department responded to the crash.

The SUV driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada.

Fuel spilled from the big rigs side tanks, resulting in a hazardous materials incident. Highway 395 was closed to facilitate hazmat cleanup and further collision scene investigation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
