Swimming Grizzlies make strides at League Finals
The Lassen High School swim team loaded up to Shasta College on Wednesday, Oct. 23 to compete in the NAL League Finals.
Nine Lassen swimmers competed in the event; Colby Talley, Ayuka Saito, Caleb Heffner, Kaelee Taylor, EmmaLee Rotlisberger, Zak Schall, Aiden Adams, Connor Pate and Jeremiah Shrum.
Each swimmer entered into two events competing in short course swimming, which involves lanes that are 25 yards long, and each race requires a minimum of two laps in any given event. Each Grizzly shaved time off their personal bests in at least one of their events.
Talley and Heffner both finished with exciting results as they both scored varsity times in their events. In the 200-yard individual medley Talley shaved just over 7 seconds earning his varsity time of 2 minutes, 52.97 seconds. Talley as well earned a new personal best in his 100-yard butterfly stroke timing in at 1:22.34.
Heffner swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:22.68, earning his varsity time. He then earned a personal best in the 100-yard freestyle clocking in with a time of 1:08.08.
Schall came out of the finals with two personal bests: first was the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:24.12 followed by the 100-yard freestyle where he dropped 10 seconds with a time of 1:17.53.
Adams took a new personal best in the 100-yard freestyle timing in at 1:11.01. Shrum gave it his all in the 100-yard breaststroke earning a new personal time of 1:29.64, and teammate Pate also improved his time in the 50-yard freestyle with 33.37.
Rotlisberger took on the 500-yard freestyle and finished with a personal best, shaving 16 seconds off her time improving her varsity time with 6:50.76. Saito improved her varsity time as well with the 200-yard freestyle finishing in 2:15.78 as well as the 50-yard freestyle finishing in 26.91.
Lastly Taylor shaved some seconds off her personal best in the 100-yard freestyle swimming 1:15.54. She also shaved 3 seconds off her 100-yard backstroke to swim a time of 1:30.16.
The swimmers with varsity times took on the NSCIF Divisions in Enterprise, Wednesday Oct. 30. Results were unavailable at press time, but look for the results in the Tuesday, Nov. 12 issue of the Lassen County Times.
