Symphony presents Pops at the Movies

Get ready for the Susanville Symphony’s renditions of some of the very popiest of pop movie themes ever as the symphony presents Pops at the Movies at 7 p.m. Friday, May 17 at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the Susanville Assembly of God Church on Richmond Road.

“This is the last concert of the year,” said Ben Wade, the symphony’s maestro and artistic director, “and it includes some of the biggest movie soundtracks of all time.”

Some of the movie themes in the concert include “Braveheart,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Superman,” “Lord of the Rings,” “Jurassic Park” and even a little Elvis Presley — the theme from “Blue Hawaii.”

“One of my favorite Pandora stations to listen to is the Epic Soundtracks station,” Wade said, “so this concert will be like listening to the greatest soundtracks of all time.”

Wade also said since this is the last concert of the season, it also kicks off the society’s membership drive for next year.

“If you sign up for a membership, you’re eligible for a gift basket,” Wade said, “a huge basket full of chocolate and beer and all that kind of stuff, and we give one away each concert. It’s a good way for us to start the new season.”

Tickets are available at Axia Home Loans and Margie’s Book Nook. For more information, call 318-8111. At 6 p.m. Sunday, May 19 the Youth Orchestra wraps up its season with a concert at the Susanville Church of the Nazarene.
