Symphony presents Pops Concert this weekend

The Susanville Symphony Society presents the annual Pops Concert at 7 p.m.

Friday, June 1 and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2 at the Susanville Assembly of God Church.

Carol Fontana, front row left, Carol Laube, Eric Fassbender and Amy Holmen perform at a previous Susanville Symphony concert.

Ben Wade, the symphony’s artistic director and conductor, said this concert kicks off the membership drive for the symphony’s 2018-2019 concert season.

“We will have our season brochure ready for next year, and a great number of our patrons sign up for the next season at the Pops Concert,” Wade said.
Wade said this year’s concert will focus on hits from Broadway.

“As you know, Broadway has long been a history time capsule of great music to accompany the acting on stage,” Wade said. “Many popular movies were once Broadway hits and vice versa. Instead of just having a general Pops Concert with many different types of music, I wanted to streamline and focus the concert into being one of just Broadway hits.”

Wade said the symphony will perform selections from “Beauty and the Beast,” “Cats,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Phantom of the Opera” and much, much more.
Tickets are available at Axia Home Mortgage, Margie’s Book Nook and at the door.
