I remember how important and nice it was to have balanced budgets and a surplus available for unexpected events that may rear their ugly heads when the world gets weird.
President Bill Clinton and the U.S. Congress gave the American people balanced budgets and a growing surplus. It is hard to believe that only 27 years ago, we had all we could ask for.
You know what happened?
Americans elected a man and Congresses that told us that balanced budgets and surpluses were bad because tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy were more important.
We were so stupid, we bought that lie. The truth is a danger we cannot afford.
