Three Dignity Health North State hospitals earn national recognition for their commitment to providing high-quality cardiovascular and stroke care

Dignity Health is proud to announce that its North State hospitals — Mercy Medical Center Redding, St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff, and Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta — have collectively received multiple prestigious awards from the American Heart Association.

These national recognitions underscore their unwavering adherence to research-based guidelines in treating heart attacks and strokes, leading to improved patient outcomes, shorter recovery times, and fewer hospital readmissions.

Heart disease and stroke remain critical health challenges, ranking as the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively, according to the American Heart Association 2025 Statistical Update.

Studies consistently demonstrate that patients experience better recovery when healthcare providers rigorously follow established treatment guidelines. The AHA’s Get With The Guidelines program empowers hospitals nationwide by aligning patient care with the latest evidence and research-based protocols.

Mercy Medical Center Redding Advanced Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center earned three distinguished awards

St. Elizabeth Community Hospital (Certified Primary Stroke Center) received two significant awards
• Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus. Includes Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite. Includes Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
• Get With The Guidelines®-Rural Stroke Gold.

Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta (Certified Primary Stroke Center) was recognized with one award
• Get With The Guidelines®-Rural Stroke Gold.

Get With The Guidelines® Awards are based on data collected from January 2024 to December 2025. While the 2026 awards acknowledge performance from the previous year, Gold recognition signifies maintaining at least two consecutive years of compliance. As active participants in the Get With The Guidelines programs, Mercy Medical Center Redding, St. Elizabeth Community Hospital, and Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta qualified for these honors by consistently demonstrating their commitment to following these life-saving best practices.
