Transit agency discusses quarterly successes

Accidents are at a five-year low and all buses are back in service at Lassen Rural Bus. LRB’s general manager Ron Leal shared the good news and more during his report to the Lassen Transit Service Agency at its Jan. 14 meeting.

Leal detailed that LRB sustained only four bus accidents in 2018 with only one of those accidents marked as preventable.

Leal attributed the low accident rates to LRB’s efforts to mandate its drivers additional trainings, covering topics such as defensive driving.

At LTSA’s November meeting, Leal reported one of the big buses was out of service. Since then, the bus, number 102, has been back up and running.

Although successful, LRB’s free fare days, its safe ride home program and the free senior Christmas Lights Tour saw a reduction in participants this year.

Leal detailed that only 20 seniors used the free service, possibly due to a senior center’s conflicting holiday party.

Only 23 people used the safe ride home program, which gives free rides home to participants celebrating the New Year on a modified city route. Leal told the group it was a significant drop from the almost 100 participants in years past.
