Trustees nominate Siemer for CCCT board

The Lassen Community College Board of Trustees nominated Alan Siemer for the California Community College Trustees Board during its Tuesday meeting.

The California Community College Trustees Board consists of 21 members elected statewide by the 73 district governing boards and a student-member elected by the student trustees. The CCCT Board takes positions on and formulates education policy issues that come before the California Community Colleges Board of Governors, the state legislature, and other relevant state-level boards and commissions. This policy board provides input to the League Board to advance the mission and effectively serve the organization’s member colleges.

Siemer had indicated interest in being nominated during the January meeting.

In his application, Siemer shared he believes the major issues and activities that should be considered by the CCCT board and League in the next two years include “how to best serve our diverse student population, open campuses and recover financially once the pandemic is over,” “how to serve our communities with increased demand for vocational education,” and “how to ensure that smaller, rural community colleges are treated equitably.”

The election of members of the CCCT Board will take place between March 10 and April 25. Each member district board of trustees will have one vote for each open seat on the CCCT Board. CCCT Board members are elected for three-year terms. No CCCT Board member shall serve more than three full terms.

Election results will be announced at the Annual Trustees Conference in the spring. The newly elected members of the board will assume their responsibilities at the conclusion of the annual conference, and the President of the CCCT Board will administer the Oath of Office at their first meeting in June 2021.
