The Susanville City Rockettes present their fourth annual Christmas Spectacular at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 and 14 and the Veterans Memorial Hall.
The show features all local dancers, the best talent and the most hardworking performers in the area. After the Rockettes open the show, the audience will be treated to an excerpt from the Nutcracker featuring J and J Performing Arts ballet students.
The toyshop scene includes dolls, robots, toy soldiers, Rudolph, elves and, of course, Santa Claus. The final scenes include a touching hustle and bustle scene and an authentic Nativity, complete with live animals on stage.
The Susanville City Rockettes will be promoting the show all over the county in the next two weeks. They will be ringing the Salvation Army bell, picking out toys for their annual toy drive, and performing at Eagle Lake Village Retirement Living and the Lassen High School Winter Carnival.
The group also put on a future Rockette camp last month to inspire younger dancers to follow their dreams. They had 40 dancers attend the camp and who will perform in the Christmas Spectacular.
All 11 Rockettes are J and J Performing Arts students and vary in age from 14 to 20 years old. Some are nationally ranked competitive dancers, and others are soloists and tumblers. The group will also be taking the performance numbers to National Dance Competitions this year in hopes of promoting their cause on an even bigger scale.
The dancers are also involved in many activities and organizations within our community that develop the young dancers into incredible young woman. Previous Susanville City Rockettes have gone on to study with the New York City Rockettes, made it into dance programs at various universities, become college cheerleaders and dancers, and some have pursued careers in nursing, the military and fashion buying.
Rockettes include Coralyn Desselle, Alyssa Lozano, Nicomi Reed, Kylie Downing (Princess of Lassen County), Ashleigh Adair, Emmalee Edwards, Allison Edwards, Courtney Beckman, Luriah Henshaw, Gloria Torres, Angel Hammon, and guest Rockettes Celeste Blakeman and Mariah Beckman.
Tickets can be purchased at Margie’s Book Nook and J and J Performing Arts. Children ages 2 and under are admitted free.
