Two big music events next week

Local music lovers may rejoice — two big concerts perform next week.

The Lassen High School Choir kicks things off with a free concert at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 10 at the United Methodist Church on Lassen Street.

“This is the first time the LHS Choir has performed a concert at the Methodist Church,” said music instructor Ben Wade. “The choir this year has worked so hard and has tackled some really challenging music, so I thought I would let the talent match the venue. The acoustics in the church are legendary!”

Wade said the choir will perform “Blackbird,” “Seal Lullaby (Eric Whitacre),” “Wild Mountain Thyme” (traditional melody) and “Golden Hour (JVKE).”

A few days later, at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 13, the United Methodist Church hosts the last concert of the Susanville Symphony’s 19th season — an all John Williams Pops Concert.

“Who is John Williams?” Wade asked. “The most prolific movie music composer of all time. Pick a movie soundtrack theme and chances are Mr. Williams has written it. ‘Star Wars,’ ‘ET,’ ‘Superman,’ ‘Indiana Jones,’ ‘Jaws’ and more.”
