The University of California Intermountain Master Food Preservers graduated nine students from Lassen, Siskiyou, Modoc and Plumas counties this past weekend.
Students attended weekly online classes starting in January and three hands-on training classes covering food preservation techniques such as dehydration, freezing, boiling water and pressure canning. In order to graduate, students must score at least a 85 percent on the final exam and class homework and final project.
The UC Master Food Preserver Program extends UC research-based information about home food safety and preservation to the public. The UC Master Food Preserver Program is a public service and outreach program under the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources administered locally by participating UC Cooperative Extension county offices. These graduates join 15 Master Food Preservers locally and 447 state-wide to volunteer to teach food preservation techniques to the public in their communities.
