Unidentified ‘person of interest’ in Frontier Inn shooting ‘detained’
An unidentified person of interest in Sunday’s Frontier Inn shooting has been detained by the Susanville Police Department.
According to a a statement from the SPD, “Officers and investigators of the Susanville Police Department continued following up on leads pertaining to the shooting at the Frontier Inn on Sunday morning. As a result of our 36-hour investigation, the person of interest in this case has been detained. We are confident that this person no longer poses a threat to our community.”
No other information was provided, and the department did not identify the person of interest or what possible charges that individual might face.

The Susanville Police Department reports two men were injured, one in critically, in two separate but reportedly unrelated Sunday shooting incidents on Main Street in Susanville. There are no suspects in custody at this time. Investigators believe the victims knew the shooters, but they have not shared that information with law enforcement.
According to a statement from the SPD, officers were dispatched to the Frontier Inn, 2685 Main St., on a report of shots fired about 4:40 a.m. Sunday, July 23. At the scene, officers located an unidentified 48-year-old male victim with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was unconscious and immediately transported to an out-of-area hospital for treatment. With assistance from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, officers began securing the area and obtaining statements from potential witnesses.
The condition of the victim has been listed as critical. The investigation is in its early stages, with ongoing interviews being conducted. A suspect has not been positively identified at this time. Once a person of interest has been identified that information will be made public.
Then came a second incident
Officers were dispatched to the Burger King parking lot, 1520 Main St., about 6:55 p.m. on a report of shots fired with a possible victim across the street at the Mazatlán Grill, 1535 Main St.
At the scene, a 36-year-old male victim was located with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his lower extremities. He was being treated by patrons from the restaurant until medical units could arrive. Witnesses reported the suspect had fled the area west on Main Street, possibly in a blue, four-door vehicle with one occupant inside.
Officers are currently obtaining video surveillance from the area to identify a potential suspect and provide a better vehicle description. The male victim was conscious but would not provide any information about the shooter or what led to the incident.
Through interviews with witnesses, officers have determined the two incidents are not connected.

As further information is obtained and suspects are identified, the department will provide the public with new information as long as it does not pose a threat to public safety. It appears the victims of both incidents knew their assailants were but have not provided investigators with that information.
