The Lassen Grizzly cross country teams hosted Yreka, U-Prep and Anderson athletes for a Northern Athletic League meet held at Susanville Ranch Park Wednesday, Oct. 11.
The Grizzly varsity boys’ team finished in second place with a final score of 46 points earned from the placings of the top five finishers on the team.
The races included a 5K for both of the varsity teams and a 3,200-meter trail for the junior varsity teams.
Jack Mallery was the first Grizzly to finish the boys’ varsity race with a time of 17:50. He finished fourth overall.

Though Lassen only had enough participants in the one division to solidify a spot in the team rankings, the Grizzlies saw great times from the varsity girls’ and the junior varsity teams as well.
In the varsity girls’ race, Ariana Miranda finished ninth overall with a time of 22:05. Close behind was Mary Cizin, who finished 12th overall with a 23:27 finish.
Jack Duncan and William Beterbide represented the Grizzlies in the junior varsity boys’ race. Duncan finished 12th overall with a time of 15:13 and Beterbide finished 14th with 15:42 on the clock.
For the junior varsity girls’ team, Annie Mahnke was the only Grizzly to compete, but she was up to the challenge to represent Lassen High well. She finished sixth overall out of the 12 runners with a time of 21:16.
The next meet on the schedule for Lassen’s runners will be the Trinity Invitational held Friday, Oct. 27 at the East Weaver Creek Campground in Weaverville, California.
