Very busy weekend in Susanville coming up
Boy, oh boy — anybody who says there’s nothing to do in Susanville hasn’t checked out all the events going on this weekend, and there’s sure to be something for just about everybody.
The Lassen Humane Society’s annual Yard Sale opens Friday at the Lassen County Fairgrounds. The yard sale, held in the Industrial Building, runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19. According to their website, items for sale this year include furniture, antiques, household items, books, a pool table, a foos ball table, garden items, linens, tools, a washer and dryer, a fifth wheel hitch, bicycles and more. The Susanville Symphony Society hosts its final concert of the season — Susanville Pops at the Movies at 7 p.m. Friday, May 17 and at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the Assembly of God Church on Richmond Road. Members who join for next year’s season have a chance to win a giant gift basket. And the Youth Orchestra wraps up its season with a concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 19 at the Susanville Church of the Nazarene.
If your interest in cultural events isn’t satisfied by pop movie themes, maybe you’ll find the Susanville Indian Rancheria’s 10th annual PowWow more gratifying. The event features hundreds of Native Americans clad in colorful regalia from many different tribes from all across the West Coast participating in the PowWow’s dance competitions.
The alcohol and drug free event begins at 7 p.m. Friday, May 17, at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18 and at noon Sunday, May 19. The event features Grammy nominated Drum Black Lodge, a presentation honoring the Blue Star Moms and a presentation designed to raise awareness of Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women.

If you’re one of those folks who loves our four-legged pets (and who doesn’t), consider the Susanville Police Department’s 7th annual Low-cost Rabies and License Clinic held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Memorial Park.
The event, sponsored by the police department, the Lassen Humane Society, Lassen County, the city of Susanville, Treats Natural Pet Marketplace and Tractor Supply, features promotional booths, sled dog rides, Humane Society dog tags and demonstrations by the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and its K-9, Hank.
