Members who join for next year’s season have a chance to win a giant gift basket. And the Youth Orchestra wraps up its season with a concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 19 at the Susanville Church of the Nazarene.

If your interest in cultural events isn’t satisfied by pop movie themes, maybe you’ll find the Susanville Indian Rancheria’s 10th annual PowWow more gratifying. The event features hundreds of Native Americans clad in colorful regalia from many different tribes from all across the West Coast participating in the PowWow’s dance competitions.

The alcohol and drug free event begins at 7 p.m. Friday, May 17, at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18 and at noon Sunday, May 19. The event features Grammy nominated Drum Black Lodge, a presentation honoring the Blue Star Moms and a presentation designed to raise awareness of Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women.

The event, sponsored by the police department, the Lassen Humane Society, Lassen County, the city of Susanville, Treats Natural Pet Marketplace and Tractor Supply, features promotional booths, sled dog rides, Humane Society dog tags and demonstrations by the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and its K-9, Hank.
