VFW hosts Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans ceremony
The William Davidson Post 2381 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars presents the fourth annual Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30 at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Susanville.
A free lunch will be served downstairs at 11:30 a.m., and a drawing will be held at noon downstairs. The VFW bar will be open for refreshments.
Mel Morrison, the VFW commander, will offer an introduction and lead the pledge of allegiance.
Lassen High School’s Autumn Brooks will sing the national anthem.
Anthony Lares, the VFW post chaplain, will offer the invocation.
A member of the Lassen County Board of Supervisors will read a resolution recognizing Vietnam veterans, and a member of the Susanville City Council also will read a proclamation recognizing Vietnam veterans.
Honored guests include Phillip Shipko, U.S. Marines, 2nd Battalion 3rd Marines, 1st Battalion 9th Marines, Vietnam, and Randy Cochran, U.S. Army airborne medic 1966 to 1968, 82nd Airborne Division, Vietnam era.
Veterans and those attending will have an opportunity to express themselves during an open microphone.
Lares will offer the benediction, and Morrison will deliver the closing comments.
The Lassen High School Cadet Corps will perform Taps at 11:30 a.m.
Local VFW post officers include Morrison, Donald Moose, senior vice commander, Daniel Rash, junior vice commander, Ronald Wood, adjutant/quartermaster, Lares and Michael Alvin, service officer. Lola Ramey is the president of the post’s Ladies Auxiliary.
