Voters overwhelmingly concerned about threats to democracy

A new national Public Policy Polling survey finds that a large majority (84 percent) of voters have seen, heard, or read a lot or some about the investigation into what happened on Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol and the events leading up to it. Americans support the investigation by a 20-point margin (55-35) and a majority (64 percent) say the Jan. 6
investigation is important to protecting democracy.There are also three tactics standing out most to voters as major threats to democracy.

• 83 percent say that politicians changing the rules of voting to benefit their party is a
  major threat, including 84 percent of Democrats, 84 percent of independents, and 80 percent of Republicans. Only 4 percent say it isn’t much of a threat.
  ●72 percent say politicians overturning election results when they don’t win is a major
  threat, including 89 percent of Democrats, 63 percent of Republicans, and 61 percent of
  independents. Just 13 percent say it isn’t much of a threat.
  ● 69 percent say politicians who lie and spread conspiracies to undermine election results is a major threat, including 89 percent of Democrats, 58 percent of Republicans, and 58 percent of independents. Only 11 percent say it isn’t much of a threat.

Public Policy Polling surveyed 528 national registered voters from Sept. 22-23, 2022.The margin of error is +/- 4.3 percent. 58 percent of interviews for the survey were conducted by text message and 42 percent by telephone.
