The Westwood Chamber of Commerce board of directors hosted a dinner Saturday, Oct. 5 for the people who assist them in organizing the Paul Bunyan Mountain and Blues Festival held in July. This includes the committee for the Logging Show as well as the staff members at the Westwood Community Services District who prepare the park for the festival and provide assistance during the event.
Jamie Walsh, owner of Sierra Smoke, catered the dinner preparing chicken and brisket.
A special gift was presented to Randy Buchanan, general manager of the Westwood Community Services District, for the 13 years he faithfully worked to make the festival a success helping the chamber in any way he could. The gift was “The axe to the town of Westwood” presented by Jodie Gunn, chamber board president, and Lana Beal, chamber board vice president.
According to Gunn, they chose to engrave an axe because it not only fit with the theme of the Paul Bunyan Mountain and Blues Festival but was also sentimental and more personal than a gift card.
Buchanan is retiring as general manager of the Westwood Community Services District at the end of the year and moving from the area.
