Westwood resource center helps youth prepare for school

The Westwood Family Resource Center distributed school supplies and backpacks to children from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 at the Westwood Community Center. Items were donated by community members and collected in a shopping cart at Dollar General or dropped off at the One Stop. Nicole Young, director of the Resource Center, said they checked the district website to determine what supplies teachers were requesting their students bring to class.

In addition to school supplies children could have their haircut by Kyndri Velasco, owner of Almanor Style in Chester. In the allotted time, she was able to complete eight haircuts.

To take part in the event, families signed up at the One Stop. There were 16 students who requested backpacks and 21 asked for school supplies.
