Winter storm watch in place for the weekend

The National Weather Service is warning that a late season storm will bring periods of moderate to heavy snow to the southern Cascade and northern Sierra starting Saturday night and continuing into Monday. The heaviest snow is expected on Sunday and travel is not recommended; chain controls and travel delays can be expected.

Snow levels will be between 4,500 and 5,500 feet and will fall locally down to 3,500 feet Monday morning.

If traveling consider alternate plans, remember to carry tire chains, extra food, water and clothing. Once the storm arrives, travel may be difficult for an extended period of time. If heading into the backcountry, gear-up for winter.
