Wrestler with local ties earns national ranking

Brook Byers, a junior wrestler at Sprague High School in Oregon won all four of his matches but came in second at a tournament held in Coralville, Iowa on March 27-28.

He is the son of Daniel Byers, Jr. and Jessica Irvin Byers, former long-time Susanville residents who now reside in Oregon.

His grandparents are Carol Byers and the late Daniel Byers, Sr., of Susanville; and Janice Irvin Foster and Darrell Foster, of Susanville; and Jeff Irvin, formerly of Susanville, now residing in Idaho.

Although he is still a junior, several colleges already have their eye on him, including Stanford.

Byers is a two-time Academic All-American and has been ranked as one of the top juniors in the country by USA Wrestling.

His other accomplishments include a state championship, a conference championship, twice being named a High School All-American and being named as All Region Wrestler of the year.
