City Council may approve natural gas infrastructure project near Skyline Road/Johnstonville Road intersection ‘to serve new industry’

As the Susanville City Council moves forward with plans to replace the water main at Well No. 3, Public Works Director Bob Godman asks the council to authorize the city manager to execute a $29,354 contract with Sunrise Engineering to design a 2,100-foot extension of the city’s 8-inch polyethylene natural gas pipeline — Resolution No. 24-6379 — at the council’s 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 meeting.

According to the staff report, “By adding in a natural gas line, all city utilities would be in the area ready to serve new industry. Also, by combining the water main project with the natural gas project, construction costs will be much cheaper than a stand-alone natural gas project. Sunrise Engineering, the firm that originally designed the natural gas system in Susanville, has given staff a proposal to design the extension for $29,354. This is a Public Works Project that is under $60,000, it can be done through negotiated contract through CUCCAC guidelines.”

According to the staff report the fiscal impact of the project — $29,354 from the Natural Gas Division’s 7401 budget, but no impact on the general fund.
