Park Fire Update — Monday, Aug, 12

According to an update from CalFire at 5:58 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, the Park Fire is 38 percent contained and has blackened 429,259 acres in Butte, Tehama, Shasta and Plumas counties.

The fire continues to consume interior islands, pockets of unburned fuels and heavy dead and down materials in the timber understory. Short range spotting continued to challenge containment lines.

Better humidly recovery is expected tonight, which will aid fire suppression efforts.

Monday, a cooling trend will bring more favorable temperatures, which may be accompanied by gusty winds.

Lassen National Forest
Today on the Park Fire, firefighters held the fire south and east of Turner Mountain through use of aircraft, direct line construction and mop-up. Mop-up is a phase of fire suppression that involves removing or extinguishing all burning or smoldering material along containment lines.

Overnight, direct attack to extinguish active fire and smoldering areas the fire’s perimeter. Night-capable aircraft are available to support ground resources.

Unified partners have converged firefighters to completely suppress the Park Fire

The  Park Fire has burned 113,600 acres on the Lassen National Forest.
The current acreage is 429,188 in total.
Butte County: 52,937 acres.
Tehama County: 376,251 acres.

Damage Inspection Teams have completed 100 percent of their assessments.

Between both counties, there are 641 destroyed structures and 52 damaged structures. The total number destroyed and damaged includes infrastructure.

Butte County
No damage: 893 (Residential, Comm, Minor, other structures).
Damaged: 47 (Residential, Comm, Minor, other structures).
Destroyed: 428 (Residential, Comm, Minor, other structures).

Tehama County
No damage: 391 (Residential, Comm, Minor, other structures).
Damaged: 5 (Residential, Comm, Minor, other structures).
Destroyed: 213 (Residential, Comm, Minor, other structures).
