SFD announces Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony

For those of us who are old enough to remember the events of Sept. 11, that claimed nearly 3,000 American lives — the day burned and seared into our hearts, minds and souls.

The bravery and sacrifice made by firefighters, police officers and other first responders who rushed into those twin burning Towers to offer aid others and ultimately lost their lives when they collapsed should never be forgotten.

And how could we forget the attack on the Pentagon or the heroic passengers who fought the hijackers before their plane crashed in rural Pennsylvania?

Of course, we all should recognize our local law enforcement, firefighters and first responders make that same solemn dedication to public safety, offering assistance to those in need and they freely accept the potential results of that risk every single time they respond to a call right here in our corner of Northeastern California. At 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, the Susanville Fire Department invites the public and first responders to attend the annual Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony at the Susanville Fire Department on Main Street in Susanville.

According to a statement from the Susanville Fire Department. “As we approach the solemn anniversary of September 11th, we invite you to join us in honoring the memory of the brave first responders and civilians who lost their lives on that fateful day.

“This year marks 23 years since the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, and we believe it is essential to come together as a community to remember and pay our respects.

“Our September 11th Remembrance Ceremony aims to bring our community together to reflect, remember and show gratitude for the courage and resilience displayed by so many during and after the events of 9/11.

“We encourage all first responders and local community members to attend this ceremony. It is an opportunity to stand in unity, pay our respects and remind ourselves of the strength and resilience that can emerge from tragedy.

“First responders who wish to participate in the ceremony in uniform are asked to arrive by 6:30 a.m.

“We look forward to your presence at this meaningful event as we come together to remember and honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
