Community celebrates Veterans Day
A little rain on the Veterans Day Parade on Main Street in Susanville didn’t stop a patriotic local celebration of veterans.
Retired Brigadier General Dick Bendix donned his dress uniform for the Veterans Day celebration.Local residents and veterans gathered at the Veterans Memorial Hall on Main Street for a brief ceremony following the parade.
Veterans of Foreign Wars William Davidson Post Commander Ron Wood served as the master of ceremonies, welcoming attendees, leading the Pledge of Allegiance and offering closing comments.
Lassen County District 2 Supervisor Gary Bridges read a proclamation from the county.VFW Chaplain Michael Otnisky offered the invocation and the benediction.

Lola Ramey, president of the VFW Post 2381 Auxillary, and Breva Treat, president of the Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms, took their seats on stage but did not speak during the ceremony.
Community members gather downstairs for a free community lunch provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars downstairs in the Veterans Memorial Hall after the Veterans Day Parade.After the ceremony, many participants went downstairs to enjoy a free community lunch put on by the VFW, served by the Lassen High School Cheerleaders who also passed out programs to attendees earlier in the celebration.
