Chester man arrested after hit and run accident

A 25-year-old Chester, California man was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 27, following a hit and run accident in Chester.

According to a statement from the Susanville California Highway Patrol, about 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, Adrian Ruelas, Jr., was driving a 2015 Infiniti sedan northbound on 1st Avenue south of Fourth Street when he encountered a pedestrian making arm gestures.

A loud verbal argument ensued, and an unknown passenger exited the Infiniti and chased the pedestrian east on Fourth Street.

Hearing the loud argument, Pat Graham, 63, walked from his residence to the middle of Fourth Street. As the pedestrian fled from the passenger, Ruelas began to pursue in the black Infiniti. He drove from northbound 1st Avenue to eastbound Fourth Street where he struck Graham. Ruelas fled the scene along with the passenger (still unidentified), and a concerned citizen transported Graham to the hospital. Graham reportedly suffered moderate injuries.

Ruelas continued eastbound and failed to stop or notify law enforcement. The Infiniti and its driver were later located by CHP personnel at a residential address in Chester.

Alcohol impairment was determined to be a factor in this collision.
