Congressman John Garamendi took the Vallejo Youth Delegation to a Coast Guard hearing on Vallejo and Mare Island, where they got to experience democracy first-hand.
The students had the chance to ask staff, wife Patti Garamendi and the congressman questions about Congress, and they shared some of the most important issues affecting them, including college affordability and ICE immigration raids.
They students also had an opportunity to hear directly from the Coast Guard about the importance of ship repair and building, just like the work done right at home in Vallejo.
Background The Vallejo Youth Delegation comprised of six juniors and seniors from Vallejo High School, Jesse Bethel High School and John Finney High School. There are the three public high schools in Vallejo City Unified School District.
