In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 29, the site known as the “Old SPI Mill,” in Susanville, burned and was a complete loss, according to a Facebook post by CalFire.
The site, owned now by Nobles Construction, has been a productive business in the Susanville community providing employment for a number of people. This fire received a large mutual aid response from many local fire departments throughout the Honey Lake Valley area that are currently present and working on addressing areas still burning.
There will be smoke coming from the location over the next days that will be visible from Susanville and the surrounding area. Fire personnel will be patrolling the area daily once overhaul operations cease. The fire cause is under investigation.
